During the Open Studios I’ll be showing a new series of paintings that comprise pigment, fabric scraps, sewing trims, thread, pencil, and marker on unstretched linen tarps. The pieces embody an alternative direction for geometric abstraction and a rough, reductive approach to sewing and collage. They signal a return to what I call a casualist approach.

I publish the blogazine Two Coats of Paint, publish artists’ books, and host a short-term residency for artists who live outside the city. In the 2017-18 academic year, I’ve been teaching painting at Parsons and an MFA seminar at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. I’m affiliated with Theodore:Art, a smart gallery in Bushwick, and I look forward to spending July at Yaddo, an artist and writer’s residency in Saratoga Springs, New York.
