Tuula Anttonen

20 Jay Street, Suite 317

Tuula Anttonen comes from Finland and is currently participating in the residency program of Triangle Arts Assocition.

In her paintings, Anttonen pictures human beings in both isolation and in social interactions with each other. Situations are constructed where power plays and abuse are clearly depicted as well as longing for connection and togetherness. Anttonen constructs her characters sparsely, considering the influence of drawing on painting: the quality of line, the colou rof pencil, the grids on paper have become elements in the painting as well.

During her stay in NY Anttonen is preparing her 16th solo show. She has earlier worked in residencies in Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.
