Tell me a little bit about your art practice.

I am a visual artist, predominantly a painter. I moved my studio to DUMBO in January 2016 when I was so very fortunate to be awarded a space through the Two Trees Cultural Space Subsidy Program.

What do you enjoy about working in DUMBO?

Having my studio in DUMBO has reignited my sense of myself as a productive and engaged artist. It’s an easy commute for me on the NYC Ferry either from my home in midtown or from the New York Academy of Art in lower Manhattan where I am the Provost. Taking the ferry or riding Citibike over the bridge eases me into my studio mode. It’s nice running into other DUMBO artists or waving to Matthew Deleget and Rossana Martinez at Minus Space because it feels more like a neighborhood of friends.

Whose studios are you excited to visit this year as a part of DUMBO Open Studios?

I am looking forward to seeing Sharon Louden, Alexi Worth, Sharon Butler, Jerry Kearns, Laura Karetzky, Marc Dennis, Beth Dary, and Chitra Ganesh.

What should visitors not miss during their visit to DUMBO Open Studios this May?

The Among Friends show at 55 Washington Street, Suite 257. Organized by artists Beth Dary, Patricia Fabricant, and Alexandra Rutsch Brock, the two-day pop-up brings artists from all disciplines together as a community. For the show, over 100 artists have made unique 9 x 7 in. handmade paper pieces that will be zipped together to make one continuous display. All pieces are uniformly priced at $250, and 10% percent of sales goes to Planned Parenthood.

Full disclosure, I am one of the 100 artists in Among Friends, and my studio is three doors down the hall so stop by!
