Randall Stoltzfus

 89 Bridge Street, 2nd Floor

I learned the arts of cross-stitching, gardening, and house painting from my Mennonite family in rural Virginia. Today, in my Brooklyn studio, I focus on painting circles – multitudes of circles that slowly build into subtle abstract forms and otherworldly landscapes. I paint every circle by hand, using the patience and respect for craft I learned growing up. I’m hoping that you’ll notice how each circle is different. And noticing this, your seeing will begin to slow, finding a rhythm that is reassuring and a little unexpected. Viewed with this meditative pace, the dense surfaces of my work open into dynamic and luminous images – a vision much more than the sum of its many layers.
